RC Aircraft

I did this story with Christina Munoz.  It aired on KATV February 10, 2013.  Maybe when you were kid you played with remote control cars or assembled model airplanes but you may not be familiar with an exhilarating hobby that combines the two and is growing in popularity.

It's Gone...

This was a general news story that I did with Ashley Blackstone while I was at KTHV. We came in on a Saturday to shoot this follow-up to a tornado that had ripped through the community of Center Ridge just one day before. This story was given a first place award for Non-Spot News by the Arkansas Associated Press in 2010. It was also nominated for a Mid-America Emmy in 2011.

Angela's Tree

"Angela's Tree" is a story I shot with Ashley Blackstone at KTHV. Our assignment was to cover the aftermath of a tornado that ripped through Sherwood, AR. Needless to say, we found more than we bargained for. This story received a 2009 Mid-America Emmy Award for General Assignment reporting.

Mason's Project

"Mason's Project: Think Change" first aired on KTHV April 16, 2007. It tells the story of Mason Archer - whose life was forever changed through no fault of his own when a drunk driver struck the car he was riding in. Mason is on a quest for MADD donations, and asks everyone to give their spare change to this worthwhile cause. This story won awards from the Associated Press and the Society of Professional Journalists - and also was recognized as Best of Gannett in 2007.

WM3

Back in November 2009 I worked on a series of reports revisiting the 1993 child murders in Robin Hood Hills - a wooded area in West Memphis, AR. Three teens, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley, Jr. were convicted and sentenced to death, life without parole, and life plus 40, respectively. There are many websites and message boards which chronicle this story. A good place to start is http://www.wm3.org/.

The West Memphis Three have been appealing their convictions for the past 16+ years. These three reports focus on the case and where the three are in terms of the appeal process. The series was awarded two regional Edward R. Murrow Awards in 2010 - one for News Series and another for Use of Video.

Rockhard Rollergirls

At the time this story aired, the Rockhard Rollergirls were a start-up Roller Derby league based in Jacksonville, AR. They didn't have any teams - they just practiced as a group at the Jacksonville skating rink in preparation for future competitions. I especially like the use of the lipstick cam in this piece. This piece took first place Arkansas AP Awards for both Non-Spot Photography and Feature in 2006. This nat sound piece aired on KTHV in July 2006.

Trapshooting 101

My latest nat sound piece was done on trapshooting. My friend Jason thought it might make an interesting news story, since there's not currently much of a buzz surrounding it. Plus, it went well with the competition being held at the Remington Gun Club in Lonoke, AR a day later.

This story aired on August 30, 2008 on KTHV. It won a third place NPPA award for Feature News in the 3rd Quarter 2008 TV Quarterly Clip Contest, and in 2009 received two Emmy statues - one for editing, and one for videography. It picked up a regional Edward R. Murrow award for videography as well.
